Discount Chichester Hotels & Breaks

Chichester

Chichester is a cathedral city in the south east of England, and is an ideal destination for families, couples or anyone looking for a relaxing break in a fascinating city, bursting with culture and heritage. Set in a sheltered location on the River Lavant, Chichester is also a great location for visiting the seaside at West Wittering Beach and Chichester Harbour, or heading off to explore the magnificent countryside of the South Downs. Summers are sunny and warm, and winters are mild, making this an attractive all year round destination.

Bursting with culture and heritage

With origins stretching back to Roman times, the city has some of the oldest buildings and churches in England, and its pedestrianised town centre is the perfect place to discover a wealth of historical and architectural treasures, or simply to relax and enjoy some fabulous shopping and dining.

In the centre of Chichester, the 12th Century Cathedral welcomes visitors to admire its medieval architecture, stained glass windows and perhaps a delicious cream tea in the Cloisters Cafe. The Cathedral houses many works of art and hidden treasures including a glass panel in the floor revealing the remains of an ornate roman mosaic pavement.

The rich heritage of the city is evident in the many historically important buildings preserved for modern use as shops, restaurants, bars and galleries. There is plenty to see and do in the town centre. Kids will enjoy the Novium, a free museum with lots of interactive displays and activities built around the remains of a Roman Bathhouse, or the Fishbourne Roman Palace with its recreated authentic Roman garden.

Starting at the Medieval Market Cross, shopping in Chichester is a great way to explore the conveniently compact town centre. All of the usual high street names are here, alongside independent bookshops, antique dealers and vintage clothing boutiques. Buskers and street entertainers add to the atmosphere, and weekly markets are held in the town centre, including a superb Christmas fayre in early December. Shoppers are spoilt for choice when it comes to refreshment,  and the many Victorian and Georgian buildings in the town have now become cosy cafes, quirky tea rooms and chic bars and restaurants, offering the best in both locally produced and international cuisine.

Attractive town centre

As well as the attractive town centre, Chichester is a great base for exploring the surrounding area. Chichester harbour is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a popular destination for sailing and windsurfing as well as spotting local bird and wildlife. Nearby West Wittering beach  has clean sands and shallow lagoons making it a popular destination for families in the summer. Just four miles from the centre of Chichester, experience the Regency splendour of Goodwood House with a guided tour and traditional English afternoon tea.

When it comes to choosing where to stay, Chichester has something to suit every style and budget. For quick weekend shopping breaks, there are usually great deals to be found with well known chains and boutique hotels in the town centre. For a little bit of luxury, there are several quintessentially English Country House hotels, many with leisure facilities and award winning restaurants, and for the ultimate romantic getaway, how about a fairytale treehouse, set in the grounds of the magnificent medieval Amberley Castle in the heart of the South Downs.
