Cambridge is a lovely city in the east of England, fifty miles north of London. Located on the River Cam, it is famous for its university that was founded in 1209. Filled with iconic buildings, its claim to be the country's most beautiful city, is hard to dispute. King's College Chapel is the jewel in the architectural crown. Built between 1446 and 1515, it features the world's largest fan vault and wonderful examples of medieval stained glass. Each year, on Christmas Eve, the choristers perform in the carol service broadcast by the BBC.

Lovely city in the east of England

In order to make the most of your visit, a guided tour is recommended as only official guides are permitted to escort groups inside the colleges. With nine famous colleges, churches and chapels, museums and galleries, bridges and river walks, Cambridge offers a host of attractions. An almost obligatory activity is a punt on the river, where you can view the city from a fresh angle. Parks and gardens are plentiful so there are many opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Cambridgeshire is a lovely county with much to recommend it. Wide open countryside, gently flowing waterways, traditional villages and pleasant market towns, historic houses and towering cathedrals; the list goes on and on. To appreciate all the area has to offer, car hire is advised.
