Naxos is the largest of the Greek Cyclades island group in the Aegean Sea and is known for its lush green valleys and villages. It is also famous for its large number of beach communities that extend along the south coast from Chora. Most of these places have stunning Mediterranean beaches with white granite sand to relax on. Naxos is slowly but surely becoming a Greek island favourite with us Brits.

Cheap Holidays to Naxos

Cheap holidays to Naxos are becoming increasingly popular and the island can be reached from most airports in the UK. There are very few direct flights to Naxos Airport and so your best bet is probably to fly to Athens and then get a boat or plane transfer across to the island. Make sure you check the CheekyTrip comparison site for more budget-friendly holidays to unique destinations all over the world. Direct flights to Athens are usually around 3 and a half hours long.

The island is at its most lively during the summer period that runs from spring until autumn but never gets overwhelmingly busy. Temperatures tend to reach the high 20s on a frequent basis throughout these summer months and rarely drop below 20C, even at nighttime. Prices are usually a little bit cheaper from autumn to spring. However, much of the tourism here is focused around the vibrant summer months and around the beaches on the southern coast so we recommend a visit during this time of year.

There is a wide variety of amazing things to do and see on the island of Naxos. Perhaps the most popular attraction of all is its selection of beautiful beaches. Some of the liveliest ones include Agia Anna, Maragas and Plaka. For a quieter beach getaway, we recommend a trip further south to the crystal clear waters of Mikri Vigla. Most beaches on the island offer some selection of water sports including surfing, scuba diving and sailing as well as inland activities like go-karting, water parks and horse-riding. For a city retreat, you can’t go wrong with Chora (Naxos City) with its temples, museums and other pleasantries.

Most of the best accommodation options are located along the coast of the island. This is unsurprising, as this is where most of the tourism activities occur. If you are travelling to this island in the months of July and August, it is best to book in advance. If not, you can usually find a great price right before you travel. The same is very true for eating and drinking on the island, with most of the best places in the touristy resorts. Naxos has the richest variety of produce of the Cyclades islands so expect plenty of delicious home-made Greek dishes at very affordable prices.
