If you are a lover of history and culture, you will feel right at home in Croatia. The historic centres of Dubrovnik and Split are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the former is currently popular for being the site for much of the filming of Game of Thrones. As well as grand, historic buildings in most of the cities, Croatia is also known for its modern summer festivals with open-air concerts being very popular with both locals and visitors.

Coastline and Nature

Croatia features one of the most beautiful coastlines in all of Europe with its mixture of beaches and rocky cliffs that touch the Adriatic Sea. Although Croatia isn’t really known for its sandy beaches, most coastal resorts enjoy private access to certain parts of the beach meaning you can enjoy the peace and quiet as waves lap up onto the shore. The sea is a crystal-clear turquoise colour and the coastline features many small coves and diving spots that are worth exploring.

Tourism

The tourism industry has seen a boom in recent years as the word has spread fast about incredibly beautiful Croatia is. As well as the historic sites and gorgeous coastline, the country boasts some of the best adventure-sports facilities in the world. The sea and mountains combination provides a wide variety of activities including mountain biking, rock climbing, sea kayaking and scuba diving to name just a few.

Nightlife

Although Croatia isn’t necessarily known for its nightlife, there are still plenty of lively hotspots that you should check out if you are into partying and having a good time. Many of the party hotspots are located in and around Zagreb but you will also find some in Split, Dubrovnik and Hvar. The pretty port town of Makarska even has a hidden party haven inside a natural cave!

Hospitality and Awards

The Croatian people and their amazing hospitality has long been known to anyone somewhat familiar with the country. However, it is only recently that Croatia has started to receive official recognition. As part of Booking.com’s Traveler Review Awards 2021, Croatia ranks among the best countries in the world for cleanliness, location, quality of staff. On top of this, it is not just the standard holiday hotels that are getting recognition but also the wide range of apartments, cottages, private accommodations and B&Bs too.
