Holidaymakers will be pleased to hear that March 2025 has brought the biggest year-on-year drop in holiday prices for any March in the last five years. According to Cheeky Trip’s latest analysis of millions of live holiday prices, the average cost of a holiday has fallen by 13.4% compared to March 2024—a much steeper decline than the previous record of -7.8% between March 2021 and 2022.
This fall in prices is being seen across all booking windows, all types of travel, and almost all major destinations.

Short-Term & Long-Term Holiday Prices Fall Dramatically

  • Holidays departing within 1 week are down 20.4% compared to the same time last year - an ideal time to book last-minute getaways.
  • Holidays departing within 1 month are down 11.8% year-on-year.
  • Even holidays six months ahead have dropped significantly, down 10.5%.
This marks the first time since early 2023 that every booking period has shown a double-digit decline.

Short-Haul & Long-Haul Holidays Both Down

Holiday prices have fallen across the board, regardless of destination distance:
  • Short-haul destinations are down by an average of 9.6%.
  • Long-haul holidays have seen even sharper declines, dropping 17.8% compared to March 2024.

Destination Breakdown: Only Malta Rises

Of all the UK’s most popular destinations, only Malta has seen a price rise, up 4.4% year-on-year. All others have dropped in price, with some seeing major reductions:
  • Cape Verde: -3.7%
  • Turkey: -6.8%
  • Spain (mainland): -8.3%
  • Egypt: -13.3%
  • Portugal: -15.2%
  • Bulgaria: -21.0%
This is the most widespread March decrease we’ve seen in recent years, with no long-haul or European beach hotspot immune—except for Malta.

Expert Insight

Steve Campion, Managing Director at Cheeky Trip, offered his thoughts on the price drops: “This is a standout month. To see such steep declines across every booking window and most major destinations tells us something has definitely shifted in the market. Whether it’s due to increased capacity, lower fuel costs, or reduced consumer confidence, it’s a great time for bargain hunters to secure a deal.”

He adds: “The only exception in this trend is Malta, which has consistently shown price resilience across recent months. But for everyone else, from Spain to Turkey to Bulgaria, there are some seriously good deals to be had right now.”

Looking Ahead

With double-digit declines across almost every category, March 2025 offers exceptional value for holidaymakers. Whether you're looking to travel this week, next month, or later in the year, this could be the ideal time to book.
