Holiday Prices Fall for the 4th Month Running in July But Egypt Bounces Back

In July, holiday prices fell yet again for the fourth month running, according to price analysis by Cheeky Trip.  2024 has now seen six months of year-on-year holiday price decreases out of the last seven months (prices rose slightly in March). This table highlights the year-on-year price differences for the first seven months of 2024.

Overall, prices across a range of destinations fell by -4% in July compared to last year. Short-haul holiday prices fell by 3.5% (after a flat month in June) and medium-long haul prices dropped by -8% (slightly less than the -10% fall in June).

Holiday prices to Egypt bucked the trend, seeing a price increase of +13% year-on-year. The biggest decreases could be seen with deals to the Canaries (-11%), Malta (-11.5%), Mexico (-14.5%), and Cape Verde (-19%).

Holiday prices fell regardless of departure date. Last-minute deals departing in 1 week were -8% cheaper than in July last year, holidays departing in one month were -6% cheaper, and holidays departing in 6 months were -4.5% cheaper.

“It is good to see Egypt starting to bounce back a little after a few months of flat prices, which followed months of heavy price drops - likely due to weakened demand due to the troubles in the Middle East,” says Steve Campion, Managing Director at Cheeky Trip. “Consumers can check Foreign Office Advice regarding any regions they have concerns about. And, as long as they follow that advice, they should be able to have a very safe holiday - and perhaps pick up a bargain in the process,” continues Steve.
