Lake District Now Unesco World Heritage Site

After years of inspiring artists and writers with it's beauty, the Lake District has been awarded Unesco World Heritage status. It joins the likes of the Grand Canyon, the Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu in the Unesco collection.

About 18 million people visit each year and it's not difficult to see why. It's breathtaking landscape is home to England's largest natural lake - Windermere - and highest mountain - Scafell Pike.
