Korcula Island (or the Emerald Isle as it is sometimes known) is one of many of Croatia’s stunning islands. It is one of the most popular with tourists due to the crystal-clear waters that are almost unparalleled anywhere on the continent, making it a diving and snorkelling hotspot. On top of this, there is an old town to explore, water sports to try, sunbathing to do and a rich culture to explore. It is no wonder it is so well-visited by day-trippers from the likes of Split and Dubrovnik as well as being an excellent destination to stay in its own right.

Korcula is sometimes referred to as “Little Dubrovnik” and this is largely down to the beauty of the old town. There are the iconic Venetian-style buildings dotted all over which are certainly reminiscent of Dubrovnik as well as the proud landmark of St. Mark’s Cathedral. When you aren’t wandering around the charming streets, you can pick up a bit of pace and do some cycling. Bike rentals are available from many locations across the island and due to the excellent weather the island enjoys all year round, it is always a great way to see the sights. Windsurfing is also a popular activity to try when you are on the island. The possibilities here are almost endless!

There are several accommodation options to choose from on the island, with the main concentration being around the old town but certainly plenty of choices outside of it too. There are no skyscraper hotels but you will find superb quality stays in a traditional hotel setting or something like an apartment, hostel or B&B if they are more suited to your taste.

The holiday season in Korcula lasts from April until around October when temperatures are at their warmest but the truth is that this destination is an exceptional visit all-year-round. During the more tourist-heavy months, temperatures range from being in the lower-twenties in the spring and autumn months to the high-twenties in the height of summer, and sometimes above. Whilst the island doesn’t have its own airport, there are a few different ways to reach it. The best option is to fly to Split and from there, you can find a daily ferry service that goes directly to the island. The travel time here is about 3 and a half hours. However, this long connection will be more than worth it when you arrive in Korcula!
