Cabo de Gata is a tranquil and remote part of the Costa Almeria coastline, providing the perfect sunshine retreat if you are looking to unwind from the stresses of modern day living. If you are looking for a fast-paced holiday with lots of bars, restaurants and nightclubs, then this might not be the best resort for you. However, if you value beautiful beaches, incredible hiking opportunities and a generally slower pace to your holiday, then Cabo De Gata is exactly what you are looking for.

Cabo de Gata is the name of the entire natural park, as well as the main resort area. One of the best things to do here is to go hiking. Along the hills and rocky cliffs, you will find a number of completely secluded bays as well as the more popular Playa de los Genoveses and Playa del Monsul. The volcanic coastline makes for some incredible views both from above and below and we recommend the GR92 hiking trail in particular. The beaches also make spectacular spots for watching the sun set over the horizon. If you want to stop somewhere for a drink or bite to eat, there are a number of quiet coastal villages to choose from including San Jose.
The accommodation options are quite limited in Cabo de Gata given that it is a resort dedicated to nature rather than tourism. However, you will find some B&Bs and smaller hotel options along the coast that are all located extremely close to the beach. The best places to stay, eat and drink are definitely by the harbour in San Jose or a little bit further out is the city of Almeria which offers many more options. Almeria itself is always worth a day trip.
The holiday season in Cabo de Gata lasts from April until around October and temperatures range from being in the twenties in the spring and autumn months to the thirties in the height of summer. Given that hiking is a popular attraction in this part of Spain, we would probably advise against travelling in the height of summer and instead opt for a spring or autumn trip. Several low cost airlines fly to Almeria Airport from regional airports in the UK. You can check on the Cheekytrip website for the availability of holidays from your local airport
. The transfer time from the airport to the natural park is around 35 minutes. Alternatively, you can fly to Malaga but the transfer time will be longer.
