Archidona was originally a walled settlement with a Moorish fortress but the town as it stands now has its origins in the sixteenth centuary. The plaza Ochavada was constructed between 1786 and 1789 in Spanish baroque style with Mudejar brickwork, and is octagonal in shape with three entrances via arches.
