To visit Silves is like travelling back in time with its large castle, the best preserved Moorish castle in the country, and its thirteenth century church, Our Lady of Conception. The narrow streets of the town are filled with small restaurants serving eclectic menus and catering for all tastes. Nightlife is low key so if you are looking for a lively time, head for neighbouring Praia de Rocha. Shopping is more than adequate and there is a market on the second Tuesday of the month and the first Saturday. There is a weekly market in Portimao.
